I FILLED MY POOL WITH MY SHIT, CAN I TAKE A SELFIE WITH YOURS?

Historically, seven major laudable factors brought about the countless agitations against our colonial masters which eventually led to our attainment of independence. The most justifiable factor in my view was the exclusion of the local educated elites from the colonial administration at the time. What made matter worse was that fairly young and inexperienced white graduates were being appointed to senior positions in government at the expense of the highly educated and competent Gold Coasters.
This led to the birth of several pressure groups like the National Council of British West Africa, a brainchild of Ghana's Former Nationalist and Education
, Caseley Hayford among other nationalist activities. The readiness and willingness of the local educated elites to man the affairs of the country was echoed in Ghana's First President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's most quoted piece, "The African is capable of managing his own affairs".
Luckily, their agitations yielded positive results. You agree with me that till date, every major sector of Ghana's economy is manned by Ghanaians themselves. Hence, meeting the desire of the elites to serve. Most of such qualified Ghanaians excel anytime they are given opportunities to work in international organizations. Locally, dozens of Ghanaians busily brighting the corners where they are in spite of their meagre salaries and bad remunerations.
It often baffles me to wake up to the news of embezzlement of public funds by some public office holders. They fail to appreciate the fact that the office they hold is opportunity to exhibit the true tenets of their religions, to demonstrate their patriotism and love for their fellow countrymen. Through their actions and in actions, they waste monies which at least could have been used to tar the Elubo-Enchi road in the Western Region and other deplorable roads across the country. This could have reduced the mortality rates among victims, through whose sweat, such monies are generated.
Monies which could have been used to train quality teachers and provide teaching and learning materials to train the wards of such individuals to save them from the trouble of flying them abroad for quality education. YOU MAY ADD YOURS!
It is laughable to see such individuals who perform such dubious and malicious acts against their own country to impede its development fly sometimes with their families or "side chicks" abroad to enjoy holidays in developed countries built by their citizens through hardwork, patriotism and sense of responsibility.
It is interesting to see such individuals without shame, flood social media with pictures from such countries. As if to tell the world that "I was here some". Such acts are tantamount to filling their pools with their own shits and paying colossal amounts of money to take selfies with the neatly kept pool of their neighbor.

I ask, why don't we out of patriotism, sensitivity to the needs of our neighbours, the quest to live as healers, lift the fallen, restore the broken hearted and the desire to encourage the discouraged build our country with its scarce resources?
The performance of our national duties must not be based on the fear of being captured by Anas' camera, but on the sense of morality and patriotism. Let us rise and build Ghana together no matter how insignificant our contributions may be. Hence, our pools will become more attractive than theirs to attract their resources as well.
